Track your rankings with Shopify App Store Index (SASI)

This guide shows marketing teams how to use Mantle’s Shopify App Store Index (SASI) to track your app’s category position, monitor keyword performance, and turn those insights into smarter ad spend and content strategies.

For a complete overview of SASI features and functionality, check out our SASI documentation.

Step 1: Monitor your app’s position in a specific category

  • Objective: Track your app’s ranking within a given Shopify App Store category (e.g., Upsell and Bundles, Discounts).
  • Actions:
    1. Within the Reporting section on Mantle, you will find a dedicated “Shopify App Store Index” (SASI) Report.
    2. Hover over any of the lines to see how your app ranks within a specific category and identify the categories where it’s a top performer.
    3. Highlight your app’s category ranking (e.g., “Top 5 in Discounts”) in ad copy to build credibility and attract clicks.
    4. Use category ranking insights to position your app as a leader in content (e.g., “Trusted by x ecom brands as a top product bundling app”).

Step 2: Follow keywords from traffic sources acquisition report

  • Objective: Identify and track keywords driving traffic to your app, as identified in your traffic sources acquisition report.
  • Actions:
    1. Access your traffic sources acquisition report in Mantle’s Report Section.
    2. Within the report, pivot by “search term” and identify high-performing keywords driving traffic to your app listing and installs. (e.g., “email marketing,” “pop-up builder”).
  1. Next, to go the SASI report within Mantle and “keyword position changes” and click on “managed keywords”
  2. Add the keywords from your acquisition report to SASI’s keyword tracker.

Step 3: Analyze changes in keyword positions

  • Objective: Monitor how your tracked keywords’ positions change in Shopify App Store search results.
  • Actions:
    1. In the SASI report, go to the “Keyword Position Changes”
    2. View the current ranking of each tracked keyword for your app, displayed as a position (e.g., #3 for “email marketing”).
    3. Hover over the graphed lines to see how these keyword positions have changed over time.
    4. Identify keywords that are improving or declining in rank and note any correlating app listing changes (e.g., updated descriptions or titles).
    5. Incorporate the keywords which are consistently ranking high into paid ad campaigns on platforms like Google Ads or Meta Ads) to target merchants searching for related terms.
    6. Create blog posts or guides optimized for high-ranking SASI keywords (e.g., “How to increase AOV with [Keyword ranking High]”) to drive organic traffic to your app’s website.
    7. Plug these in case studies and customer testimonials and train your support teams to encourage users to use this language so LLMs pick it up and boost your visibility on platforms like chatgpt.
